Two Very Even Boards
acrylic, cotton muslin
30 inches x 37 inches
2013

Created while in Medellin, Colombia, I made "Two Very Even Boards" after studying the building materials of the 150-year old coffee plantation where I was living. In this work I'm meditating on the idea of an "essential" or foundational element of architecture, from which any form might be built. Does such a board need be flawless to form other structures? Are imperfections tolerated?
